Would you ask your wedding guests to dress a certain way or in a certain colour? (I don't see how this differs from a black tie optional affair...)

I love the look and feel of this too! I think that postcards and pretties is probably right-- the smaller and more intimate your wedding, the easier this seems it would be to pull off. But really, I always love a themed party (and have a bad tendency to shop for a new dress to wear to any wedding I attend,) so I wouldn't mind in the least receiving a specific request as to how to dress for a wedding!
I do like the effect for the photos. I think the decision to ask guests to dress a certain way depends on the family. I know my family would never go for it.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. It's such a lovely effect when pulled together and photographed; however, it's clearly not for everyone (or every sized wedding, as you aptly point out).

I love this idea! About a year ago, I was talking to my Mum about this, except I was thinking instead of the bride wearing white, she could wear a color... maybe blush or lilac. A fun and fresh alternative!
