B. and I are heading to the California coast for a week of sun, fun, and vino. I can't wait to visit and this charismatic city and the surrounding area (we're travelling down to Santa Cruz and up to Berkeley and Napa as well).
If we were heading to San Francisco to elope, we would be getting married in the most beautiful City Hall I've ever seen...
Well, friends: I hope you have a fantastic week. I can't wait to catch up with you when I get home and to share some fun details about the parties that I'm planning!
Do you remember this cover? It is still one of my most favourite Martha Weddings editions ever. I think this cake is so pretty, perfect for a Spring wedding. I was ecstatic to find this lovely shop for its do-it-yourself capabilities.
Clear Cut Crafts offer these adorable butterflies in a variety of colours (in shades of blue, green, yellow, orange, pink & purple for starters). Although I love the multi-coloured combination, this cake could be designed in almost any colour palette.
These little beauties are as equally sweet on cupcakes and it is clear that a little inspiration from Martha can do wonders. Don't you think the cake on the left is just perfection?
This morning I walked 5 kilometres with some wonderful people in support of a wonderful cause. It was an inspiring morning and a memory I won't soon forget. I want to thank all of the people who supported our team by donations, well wishes, and moral support. Our Team Captain, Janet, is a remarkable woman and it felt great to be able to do this in support of her and all others living with this disease.
If you'd like to become involved, donate, or learn more about Multiple Sclerosis, please visit their site.
Big Love goes out to my friend Megan who made B. a batch of fabulous black forest cupcakes for his b-day (his favourite cake in cup form: what's not to love). I took them into his office this evening and they were a huge hit - thanks Megan!
Notes: If you are in the Kamloops area and require culinary talents, please contact this woman; if you like cupcakes, check out this site (via A Cup of Joe).
Remember this special party? Well, it went off without a hitch. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we toasted, and we celebrated, all in the name of Papa. He is truly the most remarkable person I have ever met. It's a bold statement but if you met him you'd understand within 5 minutes. I could make this post into an essay, an essay into a novella, and a novella into a full blown biography; however, in the spirit of Sweetness posts, I'll keep it simple. We love you Papa, you are the King of our hearts.
. . .
I am indebted to my wonderful friend Miranda who joined in our celebration and just happened to take some fantastic photographs along the way. There are more to come but these two were just to sweet not to post today.
I am quite pleased to - finally - post Jaime and Mike's inspiration board (apologies for the delay, Jaim). The couple is dreaming of a classic and polished Spring wedding; I think this pretty palette of black, white, and deep plum works beautifully.
Jaime very much likes the idea of a black and white palette with pops of plum (versus than having a "purple wedding"). To accentuate their bold palette, I created this inspiration board out of classic and romantic details complementing the style and season of their wedding.
Jaime: I hope this gives you an idea of where this colour palette can take you. I'm eager to hear what you think of this interpretation. xo.
They are my favourite party staple and my very favourite photo prop. Needless to say I was quite intrigued by the following wedding where they used heart balloons in lieu of bridal party bouquets.
Their theme was 'Up, up, and away' and, clearly, this wedding was amazingly fun: they had pompom confetti, a pinata, a soda bar, and polaroid cameras (just to mention a few of the playful details). You can see more of their amazing day, here.
The balloons seem to jive with this couple's style perfectly and I am very interested in hearing your opinions. A cost-effective alternative to flowers, would you consider foregoing bridal party bouquets for fun helium-filled balloons? (I just love that the bride carried balloons out of the ceremony instead of her bouquet - so fun)!
No surprises here: another Sweetness-worthy Jose Villa photo has captured my attention. I adore the flawless use of light and colour in this shot (isn't this field just magical)? More from this love session can be found here while Jose's portfolio can be viewed here. What a touching moment.
(I hope you all enjoyed hugs in the sunshine this weekend).
I hope you have had a fantastic week and that the transition into the weekend goes smoothly. We've had an insane week of weather around these parts so, needless to say, I'm enjoying the current state of sunshine.
In honour of Friday, I wanted to share the following video featuring the adorable Zooey Deschanel and equally adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing a sweet little dance number to "Why do you let me stay here?" by She and Him (Zooey's band).
Doesn't this clip make you want to put on a cute party dress and dance on the table?
Ever since I was a child, I have loved balloons. Balloons have always meant Party. This obsession has transcended into my adult years and I still adore using balloons to celebrate.
Helium-filled and floating at the ceiling or loose and scattered on the floor, one can't help but smile when they walk into a room filled with balloons.
I'm thoroughly enjoying my Vancouver-long-weekend and embracing every moment of family & friend (& John) time. I hope you have all enjoyed your long weekends and have had the chance to relax with the important people in your life.
